Botanical Berry

Definition

A botanical berry is a fruit developing from a single flower with seeds embedded in flesh, which includes bananas and citrus. The botanical meaning differs from everyday use, in which strawberries and raspberries count as berries but bananas and lemons do not. The rule is about how the fruit develops, not its size or the way it is eaten. The cape gooseberry, a small golden berry in a papery husk, is closer to the everyday sense.
